Memory Foam Tips

    Introduction to Memory Foam

Memory foam, as the name tells us, is foam that can conform and memorizes the exact shape of previous form. NASA was the first who developed memory foam in the 1970s to ease the extreme gravity force pressure when launching space rocket. In the early state of memory foam research, it was tend to be brittle and was often crack easily. Moreover it gave displeasing smell which was not suitable to use in closed area. However, later in the 1980s a small Swedish company, Tempur-Pedic, made a further research on this amazing material. They refined their own version of memory foam to be more durable and usable. At first, Tempur-Pedic tended to manufactured memory foam for medical proposes. Most of them were used with patients who suffered from back problems to ease their sleep. But later Tempur-Pedic foresaw a benefit of using memory foam in household. Thus they decided to produce memory foam products available for general public use. Although in the beginning of memory foam public release in the 1990s, it still remained a luxury expensive sale. But thereafter, other companies have developed a similar material as memory foam and made it became more affordable are available in the market.

5 out of 5 stars Great value   May 12, 2007

This item is the top of the line. As far as I can tell it is the closest in quality to the nationally popular competing brand. I am already sleeping better after only two nights! The mattress cover included for free is rather ordinary, but it is a freebie anyway so not really a criticism. You may want to get a better one for this excellent topper.

5 out of 5 stars Great Mattress Topper   January 30, 2009

This is a great product! It "fluffed up" in less than 12 hours, and fit my queen size bed perfectly--edge to edge. There is a chemical odor typical of foam beds and mattresses, strong on first unpacking the topper. I sprayed the bedroom with an unscented odor eliminator before making the bed, and only a slight odor remained after 8 hours. The 4" foam eliminated pressure points, but I didn't feel too imbedded in my "body print" to turn over comfortably. I used a King size fitted sheet over both mattress and topper--works fine. I would recommend this topper to anyone who isn't allergic to foam and needs support that doesn't "bottom out".

4 out of 5 stars No cover included   January 31, 2009

This topper is a bit frightening in appearance when it's first unwrapped, but after a few hours of "freedom" it expands into a comfortable 4" pad of memory-foam. After 8 hours a semi-strong chemical smell was still noticeable; although not nearly as overwhelming as with some foam toppers I've purchased in the past. I anticipate that this pad would be usable to those with sensitive noses within a few weeks of unpacking, unlike some foam pads that take months to fully off-gas.

Note that no cover is included with this item, so you should plan on buying one that can accommodate it.

Overall I'm happy with the item and would purchase it again.

1 out of 5 stars very misleading rating   February 25, 2009

if you are like me, you see the 5.3 and you think density..not so. It is a so called "comfort rating", actually much less than 5.3, more like a 3 lb. density..I asked them what the actual density of the topper i ordered was, and they said they had "no idea"..buyer beware..

1 out of 5 stars not memory foam   March 2, 2009

I agree with Rory. This barely has a memory foam feel. I bought a 2 inch topper at Macy's and it has a better feel than this 4 inch one. I don't like being mislead by phony numbers.
